2024 Summer ASL Music Course
SWM’s ISLC is inclusive and open to participants who are interested in learning sign language on a creative platform. Whether you are hearing or Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH); a beginner or advanced signer, you will enjoy this introduction to sign language and learning how to interpret inspirational songs using a combination of sign systems.

- Basic Sign Phrases
- Fingerspelling
- Category Signs
- Lyric Translation
- Performance Recital*

*Performance Recitals are held on the last day of class and will be recorded. Participants will receive a link to the video of their class performance. The video will be posted on social media. *Social Media Photo Release Form required.
cOURSE OBJECTIVES S.T.A.R.S.
- Stimulate interest in deaf Community
- Teach the fundamentals of ASL through music
- Advocate for equal communication access for d/Deaf
- Raise sensitivity towards the d/Deaf community through education, participation, and support
- Synergize a network of interpreters to service educational, conferences, TV and entertainment platforms

SWM interactive ASL Course introduces learners to American Sign Language (ASL) remotely via an online virtual platform. Our unique program incorporates music as a way to teach the concepts of ASL and expose learners to the interpretation of popular inspirational songs using a combination of sign systems. Schedule: 2024 Summer ASL Music Course
Ages: 9 years and up
Class size: 5 min | 15 max. students
The curriculum is designed to promote cultural awareness and prepare students to interact with the DHH community. Our ASL Music Classes are one (1) hour and held once a week for 8-weeks. Each class culminates with a videotaped recording of a group recital performance as the summative assessment. Performances are professionally edited, shared with class participants, and uploaded on our SWM YouTube Channel for promotional purposes.
